Pax 10 submission is gone

Yup, i finally got it done.

The final surprise from the entry form was. when ya go to pay for the submission, you have to answer several questions. This tells them about your game etc. I found this quite hilarious, but as i had created  anice document for them, i barley filled in the essentials. then i emailed the rest of the info.

No idea if this method will work, but what ya gonna do? I also could have messed up, i am not sure. I read that i could email them the executable game, but when i reread it, i noticed it said supply a url for them to download it from, or mail it to them. Did that mean email counted?

Sure hope so :O

Pax10 submission, done yours yet?

Ok, so i have also been procrastinating over this :(

But the submission stuff is awkward at best. Not sure who worded it all, but maybe a proof reader would have been nice :|

for example...
 B. Submit the $50 submission fee via Credit Card at the end of this form.
This seems easy enough, but in actuality the card processing button is at the top of the form.. so i guess it was at least at one end of it :O

Then there is...
B. You cannot be funded by an outside party.

Does this mean if Mum and Dad have paid for your music etc you are big fat Fail entry Whale?

Finally...
A. Submit the official entry form (the thing you are reading right now).

The Form they speak of is a list of rules. There is No form.. No place for me to type anything into at all.

So i have written a nice email i will send along with my Zip files of my PC version of A Shooter. I will have to see how i will connect the fact that i paid the 50 bucks to submission email tomorrow when i hope to send this thing out. I am really surprised at how unclear a lot of this competition is. Then again, it could look like the activision one... Them thar rulez is large!

Pax10 Research and Fun

Well i spent way longer than I should to validate a mere 50 bucks entry fee into the competition. However I always try to be diligent. In this case it was to see if I had any chance with A Shooter. Ya know what.. I think I do. These people really prize playability above all else it seems. Their PAX10-2009 entries were all great games with so much going for them play wise, if not all of them looked amazing.

Here is what their Pax10-2010 says:-
The PAX 10 is a showcase of independent games to be exhibited at the Penny Arcade Expo. Taking submissions until June 15th, our group of 50 industry experts will cull the selection of games into what they collectively feel are the ten best in regard to gameplay and overall fun-factor.

So there ya go, the Yellow highlighted part tells me to go for it. This means of course that the stage I am curently in (make the game more fun etc) is a real meaningful thing to do.

But what is fun ?
This is a tough one at times. One that can send a sane game designer batty. I believe my game has a lot of gameplay. I also think it is quite good fun. However I also feel that more fun can be added. So here are a few things i have done. Starting with the latest :O

I added a star, well i added a number of them. They scroll slowly down the level and you can collect them. YAY collectibles! However this was not enough fun. so after talking to me mate Jeff i have gone back and altered them. They used to just give 1000 points. Now for more fun i made them get incremental points per level. so now the more you collect the WAaay more points you get for the later ones. They can top out at 10K points. I like them.

I have writen a bit about another fun item, which is to play with the starfield. It can get quite crazy with Gigantic stars. Still this is value added fun. So a word to the wise. Finish your game, and in those last few weeks (yes WEEKS!), make it as much fun as you can.

Ok, i am done for tonight, So

XBLIG and PS3 Home and Pax10

Woah, a Full day at the MRI clinic this afternoon. They had to perform two scans of my elbow as each scan could not quite get the whole of my elbow in it. They are about 40 Minutes long each, adn my arm was in an awkward and painful positon for both scans. I feel surprised I amanged to last through it, it was rather painful. Of course it would have been easy if my arm could straighten, but then I would not have to go if that was the case :S Catch 22 situation.

So I'll just try hard to be brief and summarise where I am on the above title topics....

XBLIG,
I haven't had chance yet to carry on with my Global High Scores code. I reckon I will go ahead and buy the second CC premium membership and at least remove that from problems list. If it saves me an hour then it will be worth it.

PS3Home,
I have uploaded the latest Prizes and scenes today The Boss helped and Now all 210 items are uploaded and in the Sandbox, they have also been pushed to QA for I hope final testing. Live date is now only a week away. sure Hope it all passes. To be honest it has been fun fixing some of the bugs and changing a few features these past few days. Wish me luck!

Pax10,
Now this is new news today. Checkout the minor annoucnement on their page Here. Pretty cool, but what does this have to do with me and Sorcerygames? Well, should I, or shouldn't I ? If i go with it and they don't care for my game, it will not be a bad thing. I will be in the same position I am now, having a hard time marketing my games. If however they select it, my world could change. It could launch me onto so much more. This Pax10 comp is also interesting as they mention their main judging criteria is fun and gameplay. Main info Here. The game A Shooter is all about Gamplay. I can add to the fun factor with a number of mods. some of them are more time consuming, but could be worth it for this competition. Ahh, the mind boggles. I am gonna go dream about it haha!

G'night.
